Prophecy Class - Day 36: Minor Prophets: Habakkuk 2

Today we continued our study of Minor Prophets - specifically, we are studying Habakkuk - Chapter 2, which we started today.

In Habakkuk chapter 2, Habakkuk identifies his prophetic book as applying to the Last Days, specifically. And he connects the final fulfillment of these prophecies with the "Appointed Times", which are the Feast Days.

Today, our special focus of study is the "he" in Habakkuk chapter 2, who is the dictatorial ruler of Chaldea (Babylon) - aka the Beast of Revelation 13 - and his end. The Beast and Babylon have their short-lived "hey day" of wickedness. But the four carpenters (Zechariah's vision) "fray" and "vex" the Beast/Babylon, which is also the Stone Kingdom of Daniel 2...

Here are the key parts of Habakkuk 2, which we studied today:

·  Habakkuk 2:6-7 “Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! How long? And to him that ladeth himself with thick clay (pawned goods, entanglements)! Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite (strike with a deadly sting) thee, and awake that shall vex thee (cause to fear), and thou shalt be for booties (plunder) unto them?”

Who is it that “vexes” the Beast? Who is it that “bites” him? And who “plunders” him?

·  BABYLON FALLS – (in Habakkuk, Babylon is called the Chaldeans) - Revelation 14:8 “And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”

·  THE STONE KINGDOM BREAKS THE IMAGE - Daniel 2:44-45 “And in the days of these kings shall the God of Heaven set up a Kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold…”

Zechariah 1:18-21 “Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. And Yahweh showed me four carpenters. Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.”

The Prophecy tells us that the final 1260 days of Trouble will be a time to “scatter the power of the holy people”.

Daniel 12:7  “And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.”

these (the four carpenters) are come to fray them (the four horns of the goat, associated with the Beast/Babylon/Chaldea)” – “fray” is (H2729) charad, which means” to shudder with terror, to make afraid… quake and tremble”.

Habakkuk 2:8-9 “Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. Woe to him that coveteth (greedy plunder) an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest (dwelling place) on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!”

·    Although the Beast brings destruction, affliction and distress to many (globally), he (and his minions) tries to protect himself from such things…

·    The woes in Scripture (prophecy) are the absolute worst things that could be visited upon anyone…

Habakkuk 2:10-11 “Thou hast consulted shame (idols, idolatry) to thy house (palace, temple) by cutting off (killing, bringing Eternal Death) many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.”

·  Joshua 24:27 “And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.”

·  Stones in Bible times were used for memorials of God – they bore witness as a monument to the God which they were erected to honor

The concept of stones crying out is common in Scripture – everybody knew what this meant…  Stones were set up in altars as memorials to remember Yahweh – as a witness… Stones were used in wells as a witness to the power of Yahweh (which is why the pagans stopped up some of the patriarch’s wells)…  Jacob dream is commemorated by a stone being set up…  The crossing point in the Jordan and the Red Sea were marked by stones…

·       The “cry” of the stones was long lasting (symbolized Eternal)

Habakkuk 2:12-13 “Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity! Behold, is it not of Yahweh of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity”

·  People spend their time doing things that will burn…  And they waste their lives serving idols (false gods that will burn)…

·  Yahweh’s people are to be focused on doing work for the Father, which has value beyond the Fire…  the saving of souls is a labor that lasts beyond the Fire…

·  1 Corinthians 3:13-16  “Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

Habakkuk 2:14-15 “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea. Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!”

·  Babylon has wine…  all nations drink…  This is the reference to “putting the bottle” to the “neighbour”… Neighbour in Hebrew is connected with the Hebrew word “brother”…  This is the concept of “you have his back” – you are protecting not destroying.

·  Babylon is being charged for having made the nations “drunk” with its demonic doctrines and deceptions that separated them from Truth…  Truth is the Shield! Brother is connected with Truth through the concept of being the shield…  But Babylon has destroyed. It made everyone drunk (deceptions) and then to have taken advantage of them in their defenseless state.

In our study on Monday, we plan to pick it up from Habakkuk 2:16...

The worksheet is not posted, as we will complete all of the studies of Habakkuk on this worksheet set, and then I will post the completed worksheet. There are three chapters of Habakkuk.
