In today's Prophecy Club we started our study of Zechariah's 5th vision, found in Zechariah 4:1-14.
As we discussed in our study, this vision takes place in the Heavenly Sanctuary, after which the Sanctuary of Moses in the Wilderness was patterned.
We found that the Menorah - aka the 7 branched candlestick, shown in this vision, represents the seven churches, which are seven characteristics within the professing people of Yahweh in the Last Days.
Five of the candlestick churches are eventually plucked out, due to sin. Only two are saved at the very end, which are: Philadelphia and Smyrna.
Today, we looked at the good and sinful characteristics of the church of Ephesus, which are:
o
Ephesus – Revelation
2:1-7 –
§ Good Qualities:
they work (labor) for Salvation of the lost, they have patience (endurance) –
to not faint means to not fall out of Truth when the trouble comes, they don’t
tolerate evil in the Body, they have spiritual discernment and can recognize
the True Word of Yah from deception. This group hate the deeds of the “Nicolaitans”,
which Yahweh also hates. The teachings of the Nicolaitans are Gnosticism… Most of Christianity today is Gnostic.
§ Sinful Problems:
they have left their first love. This is the heart of the Shema – which is the heart
of the Torah. “Love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart, soul and mind.” “Hear,
O Israel, Yahweh our Yah is ONE (first, supreme, solely God).”
During class, the question was raised about what the characteristics of the Nicolaitans were, which Yahweh says He hates. So, here is the promised information on the Nicolaitans:
One of Satan's most deadly deception, which is intentionally designed to prevent God's people from receiving the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, is the doctrine of the Nicolaitans. This doctrine is so counter to Heaven's Purpose, that Yahshua actually said He hated it twice - in Revelation 2:6 and 2:15.
Yahweh loves, but He also hates - sin because it is so deadly. "The wages of sin is death." Every believer must also hate sin and deception.
Sadly, the doctrine of the Nicolaitans which once infected the candlestick of Pergamum, and which Ephesus rightly also hated, is alive and well today. In fact, it is one of the biggest reasons so many will miss the final outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
So, who were the Nicolaitans? And what was their doctrine that Messiah twice warned that He hated?
The Nicolaitans were a group of professed Christians who believed in a community of wives. When "Thou shalt not commit adultery" was quoted to them, their favorite reply was, "We are not under the Law, but under Grace." They claimed that they were "free from the Law" and that the Ten Commandments were not binding upon believers.
As G. Campbell Morgan explains in "The Letters of Our Lord," p 23: "The Nicolaitans were persons who excused certain forms of impurity, and made the Grace of God a cloak for lasciviousness... The heresy was known in latter days as Antinomianism, which declares that Grace is sufficient..."
C.J. Elicott (D.D.) in The Commentary for Schools, further explains, "The Nicolaitans were the Antinomians of the Asiatic Church. The life and conduct were little thought of and the faith professed was everything... The existence of a sect called Nicolaitans in the second century is attested by Irenaeus, Tertullian, and Clement of Alexandar."
And John Wesley, in Explanatory Notes Upon the New Testament on Revelation 2:6, writes, "Their doctrines and lives were equally corrupt. They allowed the most abominable lewdness and adulteries, as well as sacrificing to idols; all of which they placed among things indifferent and pleaded for as branches of Christian liberty."
The Nicolaitans used the Grace of God as an excuse for the violation of Yahweh's Law.
It's sad to see how common this lie is among professing Christians today. And it is the single biggest reason the Latter Rain cannot fall.
Jeremiah 3:3 - "Therefore the Showers have been withholden and there hath been no Latter Rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed."
