Today we began our study of Minor Prophets - starting with the Book of Habakkuk - Chapter 1
Habakkuk’s Questions of Yahweh:
Habakkuk
1:1-2 “The burden
which Habakkuk the prophet did see. O Yahweh, how long shall I cry,
and Thou wilt not hear! Even cry out unto Thee of violence,
and Thou wilt not save!”
·
Burden - means “a
burden, an utterance, chiefly a doom”
·
How Long shall I cry?
– Key point: the question “how long” relates to the fulfillment of the end-time
timelines (2300 days, 1260 days, etc…
the Final Time of Trouble)
o
Daniel 8:13-14, 17 - “…How long shall be the vision concerning the daily
sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and
the host to be trodden under foot? And
he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then
shall the sanctuary be cleansed… Understand, O son of man: for at the
time of the end shall be the vision.”
o
Daniel 12:1 & 6 - “…And there shall be a time of
trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that
same time… And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was
upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to
the end of these wonders?” (a time, times and a half time = 3.5 years)
o
Revelation 6:9-10 “And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the
souls of them that were slain for the Word of God, and for the testimony which
they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How
long, O Yahweh, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood
on them that dwell on the earth?”
·
Violence
- means “wrong, unjust gain, cruelty, damage, falseness, X (violent)
oppressor…”
Habakkuk 1:3-4 “Why dost thou shew me iniquity
(trouble,
wickedness, idolatry, affliction), and cause me to behold grievance
(toil, weary, misery, pain)? For spoiling (oppression,
robbery) and violence (wrong, cruelty, violent
dealings) are before me: and there are (many
people) that raise up strife and contention. Therefore the Law
is slacked (obedience to Torah has grown feeble, weak, and slack)
and Judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the
righteous; therefore wrong judgment (injustice, twisting the truth,
and unrighteous verdicts) proceedeth.”
Yahweh’s
Response to Habakkuk
Habakkuk 1:5-6 “Behold (see… be advised…
take heed) ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder
marvelously (is the same Hebrew word for both words, said doubly to
double its effect… it means “be in
consternation – like extreme shock): for I will work a work
in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you. For,
lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall
march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that
are not theirs.”
Daniel
2:44-45 “And in the days of these kings
shall the God of Heaven set up a Kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and
the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in
pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for
ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain
without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the
silver, and the gold…”
