In today's class, we finished addressing the timeline through a study of the Sabbatical-Jubilee cycle and the final Jubilee. We concluded our interlude in answering the following:
1) How can we know that we are in the final 1260-day Timeline since our expected visual markers don't appear to be here?
2) If this is the 1260 days, where is the beast?
3) why don't things appear the way we have expected them to look?
In our study today, we discussed evidence for the timeline. We also addressed why it is always necessary to adjust how we expect prophecies to unfold. Expectations are usually wrong... They were certainly wrong in Messiah's Day.
So, issues we have addressed include:
1) In the time of Christ, people were asking the same kinds of questions? (ie: "if You are the Messiah, where is Elijah, who the prophets foretold would come first?" and "if you are the Messiah, why didn't you descend from the Temple and come through the approved channels?" etc...) This indicates that an actual fulfillment of prophecy typically looks a bit different from the commonly-held expectations. In fact, we should expect that some details will look different, in actuality, than we had all thought.
2) Believers all have myths, which we come to believe. We are unaware of these myths, until we come upon the prophecy being fulfilled, and it looks different than we expected. For example, in the time of Messiah, it was a myth that the forerunner would be the literal Elijah... John was the Elijah...
In order to see the prophecy which was being fulfilled before their very eyes, the Jews and believers of Yahshua's Day had to let go of these myths, by noting the perfect fulfillment of the prophecies - which were playing out in a way they had not expected.
This has been a recurring problem for believers... When a prophecy is fulfilled, it always looks a bit different than folks expect. But, when this happens the challenge is this... If we cannot adjust our thinking to fit what is playing out before our eyes, we will miss the fulfillment! This is exactly what happened to people in Yahshua's Day!
So rather than being dogmatic about how a prophecy must look, we should study the elements of the prophecy. Examine what we see against the Scriptural details. Does it fit even though it looks different than we thought? If the answer is "yes", we need to recognize we've had some myths. We need to chuck those myths, and align with the Truth.
This is what the disciples had to do when Yahshua gently told them, "Elias (Elijah) has already come"... by which He meant John the Baptist.
