In today's session, we continued our study of how Messiah fulfilled Daniel 9:24-27 in literal time - with His Messianic Ministry beginning in 27 AD and concluding in 28 AD, exactly 490 days from His baptism (the starting point).
We are continuing our study of Messiah's Life, using the feeding of the 5000 as the alignment point. And we are continuing to examine the idea that John 6:4 is wrongly recorded as putting the feeding of the 5000 at a Passover.
John 6:4 says, "AndG1161 theG3588 passover,G3957 a feastG1859 of theG3588 Jews,G2453 wasG2258 nigh.G1451
The word "nigh" can also be translated as "at hand" - meaning, according to what the verse is saying, that Passover is "now here", or "at hand".
How can it be Passover, yet Yahshua is feeding bread to 5000 men in Galilee, not in Jerusalem? And there's more to it than that... As we will soon see (but have not yet studied), the bread Yahshua blessed and used to feed the 5000 was leavened bread... We'll see that in Wednesday's study.
At the time of Yahshua being here, there were two key factors for keeping Passover:
1) Passover needed to be kept in Jerusalem (this requirement ended when Jerusalem was no longer the holy city, after the 70 weeks in the first layer).
2) Passover could not be kept with leavened bread. In fact, no leaven was to be eaten from Passover through Unleavened Bread, nor was it to be in a person's home or property.
These two factors are significant in showing that the feeding of the 5000 could not have been at Passover... But we still have several more things to study before we can be certain of this.
